Happy New Year!
We are all working hard in school and have made fantastic progress with our reading, writing and maths. Many parents have said how helpful the maths mornings are and how it is helping them to see what the children are learning. Remember to pop in on a Tuesday morning to work with your child in class for 15/20 minutes. We don’t always do maths – sometimes we show you our spelling work and other things as well.
Reading afternoons continue on a Thursday at 2.45. The children like it when you can come in and read with them.
Our Friday Award assemblies continue to take place at 9am each Friday. Parents again you are very welcome to come in and join us. The children get certificates for their hard work.
Thank you again for all your support. It’s lovely to see so many of you coming into school regularly.
Monkeys are busy welcoming new friends into playgroup and getting to know each other again after the holidays.
This half-term, we are planning lots of exciting activities based on traditional stories as part of our topic called 'Let's Pretend,' and are looking forward to finding out about Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and The Gingerbread Man. We hope we can begin to make up our own stories as we play with the small world toys too. Everyone really enjoyed our special Learning Time activities last term, finding out about colours, phonics and numbers. We did so well that we are going to carry on lots more learning this half term, as well as practicing our speaking and listening and turn-taking and sharing as we play with our friends.
The Elephants and Rabbits have had a fun term so far, learning about our new topic ‘Space’. We have really enjoyed dressing up as astronauts and blasting off into space in our rocket tent. We have also been using lots of different materials to create space pictures and collages, and cannot wait to learn more about ‘space’ and go into the ‘black hole’ with torches.
Blast the visiting Artis comes and sees us every Thursday, she has been helping us to explore space and take part in a space dance.
Come and have a look at our ‘space’ displays, can you find the bear from the story Whatever Next?
In Bears, we have been having a really exciting time.
Before the holidays, we were so lucky and saw two shows, some of us even went to the theatre. The shows were very funny! Santa also came to see us and gave us all a present, we all remembered to say thank you.
We are now learning all about Superheroes and we have loved choosing in our Superhero Den and doing lots of special writing about them. We have also designed our own capes and masks and have enjoyed making these. We have also read lots of different stories and have even rescued Supertato when he got stuck in our classroom! We have also been very busy in our Maths lessons, learning our number bonds and continuing to work with numbers up to 20.
Welcome to the New Year and Spring term. This term the topic is ‘Let's Pretend’ and we are going to be busy.
In Literacy we are continuing to read different stories and learn new sounds and letters. Keep practising your letter formation and name at home, please.
In numeracy we are counting, matching and comparing sets. We are also making Bread and working on the Chinese New Year.
This term we are learning all about Fairy Tales. We are very lucky because Mrs Douglas bought us lots of new small world resources so we are using them in class to help us with our story telling. We have been learning all about Cinderella and we have just finished writing some letters. Miss Asquith showed some of our work to another school and they couldn’t believe how well we were doing.
We have also been learning about multiplication and division and we are very good at it now so we are going to start getting some harder work. Miss Asquith said that the teachers have planned some international afternoons where we ‘travel’ to other countries so if you can think of any countries that we could turn the classrooms into then please let us know.
This term we are learning lots of new and exciting things. In literacy we will be looking at a variety of traditional tales we will retell, act out and write our own version of a fairytale. In PE we are learning about direction, position and movement. This will all help us with our ICT algorithms work where we will be setting our own instructions and making a plan for a journey.
In art we will research the work of the famous artist Pablo Picasso and create our own collage and portraits. We are also looking forward to learning the new skill and technique of weaving.
In science we are going to be looking at the properties of materials which we will then make predictions and carry tests out. We have enjoyed learning all about road safety and how to be safe when out and about. We hope the children can educate others at home about what they have learnt
