Everyone has been working really hard in school and doings lots of exciting things. It’s World Book Day this week and everyone is dressing up, then comic relief on Friday 15th when we can come to school in colourful clothes and bring £1 for the charity.
Don’t forget our Mother’s Day event on Friday 29th March and Spring Fayre on Wednesday 10th April. We hope you can come along for all our events.
This half term, Monkeys are still following the theme of 'Let's Pretend.' We have enjoyed listening to stories and fairytales so much that we are going to carry on with some different stories over the coming weeks. We are hoping to find some new favourites and think that using puppets and masks to help us remember and retell them by acting them out is lots of fun too. This is helping us with our speaking and oracy skills and we are becoming super storytellers! We are also going to be pretending to be Pirates - using the pirate ships and pirate figures and dressing up like pirates too. We have some pirate stories and pirate songs to help us know what pirates like to say and do, and we'll be using technology (the metal detectors) to help us find some treasure - it's going to be so exciting! We will need to learn some new words to talk about where we find our treasure though - we are practicing words such as 'in, on, under, out, up, on, off, down and next to' in our Learning Times, and maybe you could help us to use them at home too.
Some of our other learning is going to be based on 'investigating.' We are going to be doing some floating and sinking experiments, using magnets to test different things and using balances to find out if things are heavy or light. We are also going to be choosing some healthy foods to put in a sandwich. We will need to be good at asking and answering questions to do all this won't we?
This half term we are continuing with the theme Let’s Pretend and are focusing on Kings and Queens. We are looking forward to reading lots of stories about them and learning some new songs.
In Literacy we are listening to and finding rhyming words. In Math's we are continuing to count and recognise numbers and also focusing on Positional language eg behind, in front, on top etc.
We are also talking about Floating and sinking, Making a Healthy Sandwich and planting a Bean seed. Thank you for your continued help and staying to support your child for Number and Reading sessions.
We have been very busy in Bears. Before half term, we were learning about Dinosaurs, we were so creative! We made fossils, dinosaur eggs and masks. We even made wanted posters when a dinosaur came to visit us and left us her egg!
This half term, we have been learning about how to stay healthy and we made our own healthy pizzas, they were delicious! We are now learning about Superheroes. We have enjoyed playing in our Superhero Den and we made our own gadgets, including watches that have special powers! We have been working so hard, creating our own Superheroes and reading lots of stories about them.
We have loved learning all about superheroes so far and we are excited to learn even more about them!
In Lions class, we have a very busy half term ahead of us. Spring is almost here, which means that lots of things will be changing in the world around us. We hope to spend lots of time outdoors, looking for mini-beasts and watching as spring flowers start to grow. Hopefully we can say goodbye to our winter coats, hats and gloves and look forward to wearing our lighter jackets instead.
There are lots of exciting celebrations to join in with this half term. We can’t wait to make pancakes on pancake day, dress up as our favourite characters for World Book Day, and celebrate our lovely mums on Mother’s Day. We are also very excited about Easter and are keeping our fingers crossed for a visit from the Easter Bunny!
This half term, we are going to be learning all about robots. We will read lots of books to help us find out what robots can do, and we will make our own robots out of recycled household materials.
This term we are learning about Pirates and our parents have come into school to tell the teachers that we have been talking all about it at home. We were so excited a pirate letter was delivered to school for our class and it took us on a treasure trail we had to solve clues. But guess what….it was a trap and the pirates are on their way to capture us…so be on the lookout. We are going to be writing a rescue letter and put it in a bottle to send out to sea.
We are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties which links to our science materials topic. We had a walk around the local environment to see what materials are being used and why and we learned some useful new words such as rigid and transparent.
We are currently making a pirate ship in our role play and we love putting on the dressing up clothes, we will be designing some of the things for our pirate ship as we are very artistic and creative.
This half term we are learning all about Castles, knights, kings and queens. We want to use the internet and books to research the life of famous people who have lived in the past and have helped us have better lives.
We will be looking at different stories that have castles and kings and queens. We are going to design our own non- fiction leaflet and a wanted poster to catch a dragon. In maths we will be learning multiplication and division and different methods to help us work out our answers.
We are still practicing counting forwards and backwards in multiples of 2's, 5's and 10's. In art we will be looking at the work of different artists such as Andy Warhol and Picasso. In PE we are practicing balancing and walking backwards in a straight line.
We enjoy all the different after school clubs and look forward to all the exciting events coming up over the next few weeks
