It’s so lovely to be in school and listening to the children talking and being involved in their learning. They are all so enthusiastic. Reception have settled so well and learning so much each day. Well done everyone!
This term is a very busy one. Remember we have our Tuesday afternoon reading time and Thursday morning parent session that you are all very welcome to come along to. The children love it when their parents come into school.
Also remember to apply for places for our Reception classes and for your child’s junior school place. The deadline is the beginning of January. If you need any help please pop into the office and see Razina. We also have spaces available for Nursery so please just pop into the office for an application form, or any other help you may need.
Monkeys came back to playgroup really well after their first school holiday and were so pleased to see all their new friends again after the break. We are now looking forward to a busy half-term with lots of new learning to do! Our theme is People who Help Us. As well as finding out about the emergency services, we are also going to be finding out what farmers do to help us such as providing some of the food we like to eat. We might get to taste some too - yum yum! We will also be using our own experiences as we look after each other in our role play Hospital - we will have to take turns being the doctors and nurses won't we?
In other activities, we are learning to listen to and copy the different sounds we can make with our bodies and mouths and to recognise some letter sounds using Jolly Phonics. We will be learning the names of familiar colours and 2d shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle), and we hope you will help us with this at home. We will also be getting ready for Christmas too - learning fun Christmas songs and party games so we can join in at the Christmas party where we will hopefully meet a special visitor.
This half term we are focussing on People who help us and Christmas. We are going to the local Post office and having a look inside. We are also having a post office role play area so we can use some of the things we saw. In Literacy we are working on good listening, speaking and continuing with the Jolly phonics sounds.
In maths this half term we are looking at different shapes around us and counting and recognising numbers. We have lots of exciting adventures planned during the christmas period-Visiting a church and a Christmas party! We might even get a special visitor-if we have been good. Watch this space! .

We will be going to look at the canals and learning about what they were used for a long time ago. We are also going to be making an information leaflet about Dewsbury and telling people why we love it so much and why they should come and visit.
In maths we are practicing adding and subtracting, and continuing to count in 2s, 5s, and 10s.

We have all settled in so well into Lions and have really enjoyed continuing to explore, learning lots of new things and having fun! We have really enjoyed exploring the season of Autumn and reading the story ‘Leaf Man’, we made our own Leaf characters and enjoyed thinking about the adventures they might go on. We also read the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and loved the bread that we made, it was so tasty, we had to make sure that we followed the recipe so that it tasted delicious.
This half term, we are learning all about our houses. We went on a walk around Savile Town and noticed how all of the houses are very different! They have different door numbers and windows that are different shapes. We are now making our own houses and looking carefully at the pictures, to make sure they look the same. We have also had themed days learning about Bonfire Night, Children in Need and Remembrance Day. We learnt so much!
We have been exploring numbers up to 5 and we are now finding one more and one less, we are brilliant at recognising our numbers and finding them in different ways around our classroom and outside. We are now looking forward to taking part in festive activities in the half term and learning lots of new things!
We really enjoyed learning all about the circus last term but we are ready for our new topic which all about our local area. We have decided to look at trains and train stations. We have completed some fantastic acrostic poems about trains. Mrs Asquith-Dolan cannot believe the vocabulary we have remembered and used, she even bought us some cookies as a treat to say well done. We are really looking forward to having some time out of class to look at Dewsbury Train Station and we will be looking at where the old railway lines used to be so we are going to be using our map skills to help us with this.
We are also getting ready for the nativity play and have begun practicing the songs, some of us can even remember the words from last year. Today we will be auditioning for the different parts of the play so we need to make sure we have brought our loud clear voices with us. Wish us good luck.
This half term we are learning all about Historic Dewsbury. We will be going on a local area walk around Savile Town and Dewsbury Town. The children will be researching their local area where they live and what is special about where they live. We will be looking at old and new buildings and talking about what Savile Town was like hundreds of years ago. The children will look at maps and find out information about our school and our local area. We look forward to finding out when was our house built? Who lived in my house a long time ago? and lots of information about Dewsbury.
We would appreciate it if anyone has any photos of Savile Town or Dewsbury from the past that they could share with us.
